2024 Goals

I had two goals in 2023: 1) to start a product studio company based in the US and 2) to move to Sweden.

I achieved goal 1 by incorporating a company in Wyoming with my friend Joel Benjamin. We made $30,311 in 6 months and I’m now above ramen profitability with two customers on retainer contracts.

I only partially achieved goal 2: I moved to Sweden in April and built a floating house on a lake, but I ended up leaving in September to spend winter in Asia. I got back for Christmas season and ended up renting an apartment in my hometown.

The decision to rent a place there was a bit surprising, but I realized I needed a break from the constant moving around and a place to focus on my business. Since I could do this anywhere, I decided to go close to my family.

I’ll stay 9 months in France and spend 3 months in Sweden this Summer. 9 months growing my business to 6 figures, and 3 months enjoying the Swedish summer while looking for land to buy.

My only goal for 2024 is to save $50,000 to buy property in Sweden, around Karlstad on the shores of lake Vänern.

Not going to pretend, 2023 was probably the loneliest year of my life so I’m excited to spend more time with family and friends in 2024. I miss community life, but I’m aware sacrifices are necessary to achieve my long-term goals.

According to my calculations, I’d need between 11 and 17 months to save $50,000 if I keep my current income and expenses. I’m only working half-time with clients so I could divide this duration by two if I were to work full-time, but I’m thinking long-term and building my own software products is key to financial success.

I’m 1/5th of the way there with 3 and a half months left before moving to Sweden, so 7.5 months total before 2025 (I’m planning to take 3 months off while roaming Sweden). $5,333 per month is far from unrealistic, but it’ll take some work to get there without client work. Worst case, I’ll just delay buying land by a year.

I’ll turn 30 in July. Not sure how I feel about it yet. Need to write something on the matter later.
