Seth Godin is a best-selling author, entrepreneur, speaker, marketing guru, and more importantly, a daily writer. His blog alone features more than 7,000 short posts spanning over 17 years. When it comes to content creation, Seth Godin is a king among kings.

A few things particularly struck me about his writing philosophy:

  1. Even if the writer’s posts remain short—sometimes as short as a single sentence—, the brevity has no impact on the blog’s popularity. Quite the contrary: even after 17 years, Seth Godin can still write about his favorite topics while reinventing himself. Daily writing is daily musing.

  2. Daily writing is not an end in itself. It’s a way to accumulate ideas and play with thoughts. In non-fiction, a single sentence can become material for future long-form articles or even books. Seth Godin wrote 19 best-selling books, and I would bet an arm that daily writing has been the most important aspect of such a prolific career.

  3. Time spent on social media is time lost for content creation. Seth Godin’s Twitter account is devoid of interactions, probably managed by someone else, and filled with external content.

  4. Writing is a gateway to everything: influence, wealth, knowledge… it’s fascinating how versatile Godin’s career is. The pen is mightier than the sword, indeed.
