Dealing with Writer's Block - 2

I don’t open my text editor and stare at it until inspiration strikes to publish my daily blog post. Quite the contrary: I try to stay away from my laptop until I know what I want to write about.

A blank page is impressive. Almost overwhelming when you deal with it on a daily basis. It’s no different from staring into the abyss and wonder: why am I here?

It doesn’t have to be this way. Have a walk. Cook a meal. Take a shower. Get some work done. Empty your head and ask yourself what it is you want to write about today. Things that interest you, excite you, or trouble you. When an idea appears, play with it. Entertain it in your mind, then try to have some more fun with it in a text editor. Just let your flow of consciousness guide you and you’ll eventually be done with your daily quota of words.

Daily publishing teaches you when to focus and when to let go, because both are necessary to perform creative work. Let it be ingrained in your subconscious. Make it a part of your life, and you’ll experience fewer writer’s blocks.
