Running

Last time I had a proper running routine was about 4 years ago, back in college. I always loved it, long-distance or not. There is something truly insightful about being able to pace yourself and maintain proper form by feeling your breath and heart beats. It’s a deep meditation. You live in the moment.

I had to pick a sport and get a grade. I wasn’t bad, but I stopped after completing the course: I had no reason to keep going, and I preferred biking or weightlifting.

Now that I’m older and feel the need to settle in a workout routine to keep my energy levels high, I want to get back into long-distance running.

The idea came to me, out of curiosity, after watching videos of ultra-marathoners on Youtube, the likes of David Goggins and Courtney Dauwalter. Why didn’t I try that before? How hard can it be? Do I have the discipline and self-knowledge to do that? The challenge was exciting.

Now that I’ve been back in France for a week and got back in shape, I think it’s time to plan my exercise routine more carefully. The main objective is to get fitter and put on some weight, so I can’t perform too much aerobic exercises. Twice a week at most, as well as three body-weight training sessions.

I’m doing my first 5k tomorrow. I want to see how fast I can run it. The objective would be to finish it under 20 minutes by September to join my first 10k run. I’ll write down my time at every session to see how it evolves. Wish me luck!
