Script To Video

I want to start a Youtube channel to make my writings come alive. Youtube is one of the best marketing channels out there, and I am very curious about learning the skills video publishing requires.

The problem is I don’t have any process to keep me going. Let’s try to put things into perspective and see what I can do.

If I speak around 150 words per minute, like most people, I’ll need at most a 1500-word script to make a 10-minute video. That’s about what I write in a week, at the very least.

Fortunately, I already have 240k words worth of content to leverage. Dividing by 1500 words, that’s about 160 10-minute videos, in theory.

I’ll need to spend a significant amount of time editing to make them dynamic and interesting. My editing skills are terrible, so about four or five hours per week perhaps.

I’ll also have to schedule some time to memorize the script. When it comes to technical topics, I’m not confident in my improvisation skills, let alone as a non-native English speaker. I’ll need carefully thought-out narrative structures, well-written sentences, and several takes.

One video per week seems like a pragmatic objective for now. I’ll first need to finish the big refactoring of Cowriters before I’m able to focus on curating my writings, but after that, I’ll have some free time to experiment.
